Sign in with your name, date of birth and secret words
Omxus offers an optional way to sign in that needs no email address, no mobile number and no password. You type three things you remember, and your device turns them into a key.
Sign in
- On the site, select Sign in, enter your email or mobile, and select Next.
- Select Try another way, then Use your name, date of birth and words.
- Enter your name, your date of birth and your secret words.
Use the same three things every time, typed the same way, and you reach the same account.
Choose your secret words
- At least 7 words and at least 32 characters.
- Words only you would put together. A line from a song, a joke only your family gets, a sentence about a place you love.
- Not a famous quote on its own, and nothing you've posted online.
How it works
Your device mixes the three things together into a private key. The key never leaves your device, and neither do your name, date of birth or words. For each site, your device makes a different key, so two sites can't match you up by your key.
Omxus receives only a signed proof and the public address for that site's key. That address counts as verified, because only someone who knows your three things could produce it.
Important
Nobody can reset these three things for you, and that includes Omxus. We never have them. If you forget your secret words, the account made with them can't be recovered. Write them down and keep them somewhere safe and private.
Is this the same account as my email account?
No. Signing in with your three things opens a separate account from one you made with an email address or mobile number.
Why ask for my name and date of birth?
They make your key unique to you, so two people who happen to choose similar words still get different keys. They aren't checked against any record and they aren't sent to us.
